It is important that the sintering process does not unduly alter the shape of the part. Any change has to be managed within tight acceptance limits. Failure to achieve this can lead to a product that is out of specification and not fit for purpose. A method of predicting shrinkage based on bulk properties of the ceramic will allow for the spray-drying process to be optmised and the resulting powder precursors to be screened, leading to increased productivity and reduced waste.
