We are happy to support the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline, a charity based in Malvern, UK.
On the 26 April 1986, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station exploded, the resultant fallout was deadly radioactive material some of which has a half-life of 24,000 years. The carcinogenic radioactive particles severely affected the region (70% fell on Belarus), the long-term effects are still not fully understood.
The Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline charity looks after children who are ill, organising respite breaks to the UK to give them a chance to a live in a ‘clean’ environment, away from background radiation, and eat uncontaminated food for a month. Some Doctors believe these respite breaks can increase life expectancy by up to two years. 43,000 children from Belarus have visited since 1992.
