Powder testing at TCT Asia 2019 - Optimise additive manufacturing processing applications

Powder flow specialists Freeman Technology, will be exhibiting at TCT Asia (21 - 23 February 2019), at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, Shanghai, China on Booth W5-M14. Now part of the Micromeritics Instrument Corporation, the company will be showcasing their material characterisation solutions designed to optimise process performance, increase productivity and improve quality in a diverse range of sectors, including additive manufacturing.

Freeman Technology has been providing powder testing instrumentation for over 17 years, and are experts in the field of powder characterisation. Visitors will be able to see a demonstration of the company’s flagship product, the pioneering FT4 Powder Rheometer and learn how this universal powder tester can optimise powder processes. The FT4 has applications in a wide variety of industries including the rapidly expanding additive manufacturing sector. It delivers sensitive, reliable and repeatable data, providing comprehensive characterisation of properties known to be influential in AM processes. Traditional powder characterisation techniques are typically not capable of quantifying subtle differences between powders which perform differently in process. Similarly, analysis of particle properties alone is not always sufficient for assessing all of the properties that can influence powder behaviour. Studies have demonstrated the limitations of relying on single parameters and how multiple rheological properties can be applied to better understand in-process performance. Low permeability, for example, has been shown to contribute to poor layer uniformity, and dynamic flow properties have been used to quantify the impact of changes in suppliers or powder production methods, as well as the influence of additives. Further studies have also highlighted the application of powder rheology in investigating powder reuse – a fundamental factor in optimising AM processes. Delegates will be able to collect copies of application notes that show the results of these studies and discuss the importance of powder rheology in additive manufacturing. Freeman Technology has been providing powder testing instrumentation for over 17 years, and are experts in the field of powder characterisation.
